BNR: 19 Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria refused to live in the camp because of fungus
A group of Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria refused to live on the territory of the state tourist base. This was reported by Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The incident occurred in Veliko Tarnovo. It is specified that a group of 19 Ukrainians were brought from Varna. It turned out that the base “Student Recreation and Sports” is not suitable for accommodating people. “We came from Varna on the program, but we were deceived. They took us to another hotel, not the one we were told about. Everywhere fungus and damp, you can’t bring children with you. We rebelled and were brought here for two days”, – said Anna Bella, a Ukrainian.
After that, the group was sent to a private hotel. The hotel owner Yelitsa Gavazova said she would only be able to provide three meals a day to the refugees for two days, then only overnight accommodations. According to her, the allocated money (5 BGN) is not enough for food.
According to Bulgarian National Radio, the regional coordination headquarters and Veliko Tarnovo police were not informed that Ukrainians were coming to the city under a humanitarian resettlement program.
Earlier, Bulgarian authorities decided to reduce the amount of compensation for food and accommodation of refugees from Ukraine placed in hotels and recreation centers. According to the agency, the compensation will be reduced from 40 levs (about 20 euros) to 15 levs (about 7.5 euros) per day.
